![]() There are still clips of his show that remain resonant and relevant today, a testament to Stewart’s prevailing relevance as a comedic voice. He reinvented what could be expected from late night and showed that there could be some deeper observations to be found amongst the laughs. He gave some of the most tough interviews to those who needed to face some tough questions. ![]() He gave voice to our collective frustrations about all that was, and still is, going wrong with the direction of our world. One of the more politically focused hosts on this list, Stewart’s run on The Daily Show was fearless and demonstrated a willingness to confront the failings of leaders. Speaking of a comedic presence who recently made a return, Jon Stewart was one of the most memorable voices in late night. He is really one of a kind, a presence we all have missed and will welcome when he returns. ![]() Case in point, when Kumail Nanjiani recently canceled literally right before a taping was set to begin, that didn’t stop the host from making one of his best-ever shows. He can consistently think on his feet, rising to every occasion. There is no one that quite manages to make the most out of every new segment like he can. Be it the Olive Garden or locations around the world, Conan is always an entertaining travel guide. He also has shown a good eye for how to take his act on the road, giving us some of the best remote segments of any late-night show. He is one of the most versatile of joke tellers and the most tactile of interviewers, making each monologue land in addition to ensuring each conversation with his guests sings. The former Simpsons writer is still planning to take on a new weekly show on HBO soon, though that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be given all the praise now. He was and is an icon of the medium, proving himself to be the unabashed king of late night. Conan premiered on November 8, 2010.When Conan O’Brien recently closed out his TBS show for the last time, there was an outpouring of support for the host and for good reason. On April 12, 2010, it was announced that O'Brien would begin hosting a new late-night talk show on cable TV network TBS. He is the only personality to ever serve as host for both the NBC Late Night and Tonight Show franchises. O'Brien went on to serve as host of Late Night with Conan O'Brien from 1993 to 2009, before going on to host the short-lived The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien for seven months. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles, where he wrote for several comedy shows, and later moved to New York City to work on the writing staff of Saturday Night Live, and later for The Simpsons. Sullivan mweather8/31/2023 ![]() He’ll face former White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodón, who will be making his Yankees debut after recovering from a left forearm strain and back stiffness, in Friday’s series opener. Taillon wound up signing a four-year, $68 million deal with the Cubs but has struggled to regain his form in the first half, going 2-6 with a 6.93 ERA. Jameson Taillon pitched the finale for New York, earning the win in an 18-4 romp in which Ross sent out first baseman Frank Schwindel to pitch the eighth inning. The Cubs were outscored 28-5 in the Yankees’ three-game sweep last year in the Bronx, part of a 10-game losing streak. Now it’s on to New York for the reunion with Rizzo and a chance to end the first half on a positive note. “This is a special honor those guys get and a great opportunity to be around other great players, to get experiences and (see) how other guys do things and be in a really cool atmosphere. “Listen, I don’t ever think it’s healthy for our sport or for anybody to think the All-Star Game is something we should not participate in and look down upon,” Ross said. Manager David Ross conceded it’s a conundrum: Teams want their players healthy and rested, but the All-Star Game is also a special gift to baseball fans. While the Cubs love having their players chosen for the game, some in the organization don’t mind Stroman sitting it out. We’re all grateful to be in this position, but there is that time where you get a few days to rest, relax and get ready for a great second half.” ‘But that’s obviously part of our job, something we get paid to do. “A tough schedule in terms of travel and rain delays and schedule changes and weird baseball times,” Swanson said. ![]() He also said the need to recharge is real. “It’s not anything we’ve really decided on yet,” he said, adding he would discuss it in New York. Number 9 on periodic table8/30/2023 ![]() A modern periodic table arranges the elements in increasing order of their atomic numbers and groups atoms with similar properties in the same vertical column. The modern statement of this relationship, the periodic law, is as follows: the properties of the elements are periodic functions of their atomic numbers. (credit a: modification of work by Serge Lachinov credit b: modification of work by “Den fjättrade ankan”/Wikimedia Commons)īy the 20th century, it became apparent that the periodic relationship involved atomic numbers rather than atomic masses. (a) Dimitri Mendeleev is widely credited with creating (b) the first periodic table of the elements. Although Mendeleev and Meyer had a long dispute over priority, Mendeleev’s contributions to the development of the periodic table are now more widely recognized. The discoveries of gallium (1875) and germanium (1886) provided great support for Mendeleev’s work. But Mendeleev went one step further than Meyer: he used his table to predict the existence of elements that would have the properties similar to aluminum and silicon but were yet unknown. Both published tables with the elements arranged according to increasing atomic mass. Fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), and iodine (I) also exhibit similar properties to each other, but these properties are drastically different from those of any of the elements above.ĭmitri Mendeleev in Russia (1869) and Lothar Meyer in Germany (1870) independently recognized that there was a periodic relationship among the properties of the elements known at that time. For example: Li, Na, and K are much more reactive than are Ca, Sr, and Ba Li, Na, and K form compounds with oxygen in a ratio of two of their atoms to one oxygen atom, whereas Ca, Sr, and Ba form compounds with one of their atoms to one oxygen atom. However, the specific properties of these two groupings are notably different from each other. A second grouping includes calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr), and barium (Ba), which also are shiny, good conductors of heat and electricity, and have chemical properties in common. One such grouping includes lithium (Li), sodium (Na), and potassium (K): these elements all are shiny, conduct heat and electricity well, and have similar chemical properties. ![]() ![]() Identify metals, nonmetals, and metalloids by their properties and/or location on the periodic table.Īs early chemists worked to purify ores and discovered more elements, they realized that various elements could be grouped together by their similar chemical behaviors.Predict the general properties of elements based on their location within the periodic table.State the periodic law and explain the organization of elements in the periodic table.

Drive thru wildlife park near me8/30/2023 ![]() Then at your assigned time you can go on a tour to see the rest of the animals. Chickens and pigs and other barnyard animals are also in these areas. You can buy some feed to feed sheep and goats. The front of the zoo is a petting zoo with some loose baby goats that were fun to pet. It was a bit pricey, but it did include a guided tour with a small group. Once we got there we realized the zoo was actually open as well. Went for the first time last week because I read they had a drive-through zoo for the quarantine. I’m working on scheduling an Otter Splash experience for this summer! ![]() What impressed me was the obvious care of the animals. This is not a spit polish or high tech facility. There is a single-stall bathroom and a porta potty. There is also a gift shop & a few snacks you can buy. There were fun photo ops & places to rest & take a load off. But it was fun watching the rare breed and miniature animals & feeding them. The Petting Farm area is more fun for kids I’m sure. We had a great time letting the parakeets land on us. ![]() We also bought parakeet feed sticks & went to the Parakeet Landing enclosure. Feed was provided and it was very fun interacting with the camel. They stopped the wagon for us to unload & feed a giant 7 foot tall camel. We loaded on a hay wagon pulled by a tractor which took us to the other side of the farm where we saw some celebrity animals, camels, zebras and their emotional support animals, camels, mini-horses, emus, etc. We were able to pet a snake & the largest legless lizard I have ever seen. The building is small & our group was very crowded. The Reptile Encounter was a little less impressive. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the enclosures & obvious care given to the animals. At the end, we had the chance to pet a chinchilla, an armadillo and a hedgehog. The guide gives good detail about the animals along the way. The Wildlife Walk was not long, but does start off with a moderate hill. My husband is on a cane, but was able to manage all of these with difficulty. This was our first visit & we got the “Adventure Package,” which includes zoo admission, the Wildlife Walk, Reptile Experience, Camel Encounter & Petting Zoo. They focus on specialized hands on “experiences” which must be booked in advance. It is a small privately owned zoo with an interesting variety of animals. Took my husband & his brother here for my husband’s birthday.

The game featured 53 combined fouls and 73 total free throws.Redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns in his debut during Oklahoma State’s season-opening 52-36 win over Oregon State on Friday night at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon. ![]() Both teams hit the bonus with 11:30 still to play. Barely 12 minutes into the second half, the officials already had called 18 total fouls – nine on each team. The first half looked a lot like a basketball game that tipped close to 10 p.m. ![]() It hadn’t been that quiet in the barn since the Baylor-Wisconsin game ended nearly three hours earlier. When they left and the arena finally went quiet, it was rather weird. Sunday’s final game of the tournament’s third day tipped about 18 minutes behind schedule because of a power surge at Hinkle Fieldhouse about 20 minutes after the day’s second game between Arkansas and Texas Tech.įans of both those programs brought enough energy to power the place, and the rest of Indianapolis. His final shot in this one was an air ball. As he hoisted shots, someone in the upper reaches of the arena kept bellowing three words.Ĭunningham’s college career likely is over, ending in a gym that had fewer than 2,000 fans. Too quiet for a first team All-American and possible first overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft.Ĭunningham was the first Cowboy back out of the locker room to warm up for the second half - 11 minutes before the second half. He had a few flashes - trailing on the break before stepping into a 3-pointer. Cunningham had the look of someone in the game who could get any shot he wanted and go anywhere he wanted, but rarely did in the first half. He bounced along to his own personal beat, singing and dancing as he put up shots in the pre-game routine. Heading into Sunday’s game, all-everything Oklahoma State freshman guard Cade Cunningham warmed up wearing a pair of sleek, black wireless headphones. “It was in us from the beginning, this success.” “We believe we’re capable of great things. “It’s the same thing that’s getting us through these past couple games, leaning on each other and believing in ourselves,” Thompson said. The only way they were playing Sunday was if they beat No. The only way the Beavers were getting into the NCAA tournament was to win the Pac-12 Tournament. It threatened to make this one silly before halftime, going up by as many as 18 following six quick points from Jarod Lucas. Oregon State was just better early in building its big lead. The Big Ten? As of early Monday, it had none. With half the Sweet 16 field set, the Pac-12 has one school in the mix. It was almost fitting for Oregon State that this one actually ended early Monday morning. They love Thompson right back after this one. That’s fine with them - just keep sleeping on them and on the Pac-12. And that’s only fitting, for much of the country has likely long gone to bed when the Beavers are on television, often thousands of miles and three time zones away on the West Coast. Nobody saw Oregon State coming in this one, or this week. Also trying to be as strong with the ball as I can.” “You kind of see how the game’s being played. “Definitely,” Thompson said of wanting the ball. Green was becoming a first-round NBA draft pick out in Corvallis. He just wanted the ball, wanted the opportunity to shoot free throws, wanted to be one of the ones to lead the Beavers to a place they haven’t been since A.C. He wasn’t fazed by the plethora of traps and double-teams and everything else the Cowboys threw his way. Thompson scored a team-high 26 points, including 15-of-16 from the foul line. “It just took believing and trusting each other.” These wins we’re having have been great team effort. “We had to take a further step and believe in ourselves and believe and trust in each other. “We’ve always had that confidence,” Thompson said. ![]() Likely one of the last teams into the field doesn’t want to go home anytime soon. When he finally was finished, the Beavers had advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 for the first time since 1982 following an 80-70 victory at Hinkle Fieldhouse. 4 Oklahoma State and kept making free throws, Two here. Thompson kept getting fouled, kept going to the foul line against No. Something good certainly did early Monday morning for guard Ethan Thompson and Oregon State. INDIANAPOLIS - Anytime a player has to hang around the basketball court for a post-game television interview during the NCAA Tournament, it usually means something good has just happened.
